As this week comes to a close I would like to thank all those students who are working super hard to practice their reading & math skills every day.  The students who practice hard and apply themselves each and every day, go without asking when they can stop.  They continue to push themselves to be at their very best and I appreciate their hard work so much!

In two weeks Track 2 will start the EOG tests on May 7th -10th.  That leaves us with two more weeks of intense instruction and review of skills from the past 3 quarters.  It is very important that all students are getting lots of rest each night, eating a healthy breakfast, and trying to keep themsleves as healthy as possible.  I know sometimes it is inevitiable that our children get sick, but let's do our best to keep them healthy during such a critical part of the school year.  Practicing these good habits will help make the process of testing much more relaxed and anxiety/stress free.

I am very happy to say that for the first time this entire school year, EVERY SINGLE STUDENT HAS COMPLETED ALL OF THEIR HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT!  This is something that I have been stressing for the students and finally it has happened!  Hooray!

Please read the information going home about field day, brining in the game of Battleship, and bringing in recipes that contain fractions on Monday.  I really want the students to get a sense of how everthing they are learning pertains to their real life outside of school.  Thanks so much!

An important note went home from administration on Monday about the change in the EOG dates for track 2.  In this note it informed families that the dates had been changed to May 7th - 10th, 2012.  This will place EOG's during the week of school before our last track out.  This opportunity does push the date closer than the original date in June, but it also allows us less time for the students to be out of school without the rigor and preparation before hand.  If you have any questions about the dates please let me know.

We all know how important a good diet is for students, especially when they have testing like the EOG's.  So for the past few years, I have asked for donations and volunteers to bring in healthy breakfast foods for the students to eat before the test.  The school cafeteria of course always serves a well balanced meal, but we need extra foods packed full of brain power!  Foods like, hard boiled eggs, granola, yogurt, bagels, string cheese, fruit, milk, juice, etc... are all great ways to start out the day.  I will be sending out an electronic sign up for those who have given me their emails and if you do not have email, please let me know and we can sign you up the old fashioned way.  The process of serving this food is generally very quiet and relaxed.  The table is set up outside the room where students can get their food and then return to their desk to eat & relax quietly.  Once the food is served I will need to close the door and prepare them for the test ahead, so I would need parents to be able to clean up the table & food and leave the hallway clear for the rest of the day.  If you are interested in helping out this way, you may also sign up.  Thank you!!!!

What an exciting way to start off the week!  Our classroom had an in school fieldtrip with High Touch High Tech today.  We learned more about the human body's skeletal system, joints, and organs.  The students did so well remembering our objectives from 3rd quarter, that the scientist was super impressed!  We even got to explore what real organs looked like.  Scientists don't say "gross," we say "cool!"  The students had an amazing experience getting to see what real organs like hearts, eyes, and even bones looked like from different animals.  Check out our "What We Are Up To" page to see the "cool" pictures.

Parents & students, a reminder that there will be no school on Friday, April 6!

Track out is only 6 weeks away, which means EOG's are right after track out!  So please make sure you are going through your student's Friday Folder and looking over their work, going through examples from school, and discussing the EOG preparation activities that get sent home each week.  Let me know if you have any questions!
